A T-1000 advanced prototype. Liquid metal.

—The T-1000 in Mortal Kombat 1

The T-1000, also known by its model name of T-1000 Advanced Prototype, or simply as 1000 Series, is a cybernetic organism known for its appearances in the Terminator science-fiction action film series. A machine made of liquid metal and the ability to shapeshift, the T-1000 has become an iconic antagonist of the science-fiction action genre, a stapled antagonist in the Terminator franchise, and a pop culture icon.

The T-1000 made its debut as a playable guest character in Mortal Kombat 1, being the final guest character available as part of the Kombat Pack 2.

About The T-1000

The T-1000 is a recurring antagonist in the Terminator film series. In the franchise's second film Judgment Day, the T-1000 serves as the main antagonist, stalking and trying to kill John Connor and later his mother to ensure humanity's extinction after Judgment Day.

The T-1000 was only the second Terminator featured in its origin franchise, being a far more advanced and complex machine compared to the T-800 from the original film. While still being classified as a cybernetic organism like its counterparts, rather than having an endoskeleton covered in living tissue, its body is comprised entirely of Mimetic Polyalloy, an artificial liquid metal that allows not only the T-1000 but other Terminators that are equipped with it to transform and shapeshift into anything of equal size and mass. This allows for far more advanced infiltration by 1000 Series Models. Additionally, unlike a T-800 that is programmed for its mission, a T-1000's molecular brain grants more self-awareness as well as other emotional traits, allowing it to act on its own and even ignore its orders from Skynet.

One of the most iconic traits of the T-1000 is its ability to shapeshift into any person or thing of equal size or mass. This allows it to deceive humans on its mission to kill its targets. Its shapeshifting, however, does have its limitations, as sustaining damage can reveal its liquid metal body. Additionally, sustaining too much damage can cause malfunctions, as the T-1000 had simply grabbed a metal railing and had started to unintentionally transform into it, where it need to quickly correct its arm afterwards. Its shapeshifting does not let it create weapons that require complex movements, such as firearms and explosives, however it can form knifes and stabbing weapons to impale people and other Terminators. Because it lacks an endoskeleton, the T-1000 relies on its liquid metal body to heal itself, making it much more susceptible to small arms fire and explosives, as well as molten metal and hydrochloric acid.

Only two T-1000s have appeared in the film series, in the second film of the series as the main antagonist and a minor antagonist in Terminator Genisys. A T-800 gains the same abilities as the T-1000 in Genisys, named Pops, having fallen into mimetic polyalloy. Although he gains the shapeshifting abilities, Pops is still considered a T-800. Despite its limited appearances, the T-1000 would serve as inspiration for many infiltrator units in the series after its appearance in Judgment Day, including the T-X, the T-3000 and more recently with the Rev-9, which combines aspects of the T-800 and the T-1000, respectively.

Appearance

The T-1000's appearance is taken directly from its appearance in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, with Robert Patrick reprising his role as the iconic cyborg. An additional Cosmetic Kustomization allows it to appear in a motorcycle officer outfit, identical to the one it wore after stealing it later in the film. Additionally, other outfits the cyborg can wear are other law enforcement attires from around the world.

Biography

  • Mortal Kombat 1: It was sent into the past with a clear mission: To ensure the supremacy of machines over humanity and to eliminate John Connor, the future leader of the human resistance. The liquid metal machine can imitate any object with an identical mass ratio without the need for complex moving parts. The virtually indestructible T-1000 can shapeshift into other people, perfectly mimicking their appearance, behavior, and voice, making it an extremely difficult opponent to detect and defeat. It also has the ability to transform into objects by converting parts of itself into formidable weapons, such as creating a deadly blade from an arm, and regenerate itself after sustaining physical damage. With its advanced intelligence and metamorphosis capabilities, the T-1000 embodies the ultimate evolution of assassination technology.

Combat Characteristics

Powers and Abilities

Being a cybernetic killing machine whose only purpose is to terminate its targets, the T-1000 utilizes inhumane strength and extensive knowledge of weapons and firearms to complete its objectives. Its shapeshifting abilities allow it to infiltrate and deceive its targets to move in for the kill. Additionally, as it is composed of liquid metal, it can make its own weapons using its body, such as large knifes, blades and even hook arms. It cannot, however, transform its body into weapons that utilize mechanics and chemicals, such as firearms or explosives and as such only uses its body as bladed weapons.

Not only does the shapeshift allow it to make weapons but also transform into other individuals of equal size and mass. This allows it to deceive targets to move in for the kill, however it cannot transform into smaller things. Its shapeshifting is similar to that of Shang Tsung, however the cyborg merely imitates the appearance and does not gain the abilities of the fighter it is fighting.

Like with all Terminators, the T-1000 has extensive knowledge of firearms and vehicles, no matter the complexity or size.

Unlike the T-800 models, the T-1000 is comprised entirely of liquid metal rather than a traditional endoskeleton with living tissue over it. This means the T-1000 does not age in appearance as well as can regenerate from injuries to the point it doesn't have a scratch on it. Despite this, its regenerative capabilities do have their limitations. Sustaining too much damage can cause malfunctioning or glitching, in which it cannot properly regenerate or its body mistakenly changes shape depending on the surface or material it touches. Extreme temperatures, such as being frozen by liquid nitrogen or burned by molten metal or plasma can severely damage or kill a T-1000. Exposure to heat from fire also reverts it to its metal composition, removing its mimicked appearance. Acidic compounds that eat through metals, such as hydrofluoric acids can also kill a T-1000. It is susceptible to small arms fire and even heavier rounds from shotguns and assault rifles, with higher calibers taking longer for it to heal, however explosives devices can make it difficult for it to regenerate or outright kill the cyborg.

Signature Moves

  • Ballistic Suppression: The T-1000 pulls out its Beretta and shoots the opponent twice in the face. This attack can miss ducking opponents. (MK1)
    • The enhanced version has the T-1000 shoot the opponent two more times, dealing increased damage.
  • Ballistic Approach: The T-1000 walks forward, pulling out its Beretta and shoots the opponent twice in the face. This attack can miss ducking opponents. This attack deals slightly less damage than Ballistic Suppression at the expense of approaching the opponent, however, holding an input allows the T-1000 to fire two more shots, dealing much more damage, called Extended Ballistic Approach, respectively. (MK1)
    • The enhanced version is called Ballistic Sprint and has the T-1000 sprint at the opponent while firing its Beretta. This version deals slightly less damage at the expense of allowing the T-1000 to reach full-screen distance while sprinting and also use a follow-up attack:
      • Sprinting Dual Bore: The T-1000 stabs the opponent in the stomach with its bladed arms when it reaches them after firing all four shots and tosses them to the other side.
  • Tornado Slam Emulation: The T-1000 morphs its hands and forms Hook Swords, driving them into the opponent's shoulders and slamming them down in the opposite direction before lifting them up, spinning them around and slamming them once more on the ground. This attack is borrowed from Kabal. (MK1)
    • Enhancing the attack has the T-1000 only slam the opponent once, bouncing them off the ground for a juggle. This version of the attack deals less damage at the expense of the juggle effect.
  • Acute Angle Hooks: The T-1000 slashes the opponent with its arms morphed into angled hooks, knocking them to the ground. (MK1)
    • Enhancing the attack grants Armor and deals increased damage.
  • Wrath Hammer Emulation: The T-1000 morphs its hands and forms Shao Kahn's Wrath Hammer to slam it over the opponent's head, knocking them straight to the ground. This attack is capable of being Up Blocked by the opponent, leaving the T-1000 completely vulnerable. This attack is borrowed from Shao Kahn. (MK1)
    • Enhancing the attack deals increased damage and makes the T-1000 much more safe when blocked by the opponent. Additionally, the attack creates considerable pushback when blocked by the opponent. Like the original version, the attack is capable of being Up Blocked by the opponent, leaving the T-1000 completely vulnerable.
  • Superfluid Matter: The T-1000 transforms into a liquid mass of metal called Superfluid State and begins traversing the fightline. While traversing, the T-1000 can use various special attacks, is immune to High Attacks, and can even move under and past the opponent. The T-1000 can travel about half the arena's entire length. (MK1)
    • Enhancing the attack causes the T-1000 to produce spikes from its liquid body before traversing. Should the opponent be close to it, they will take damage.
      • Defensive Lattice: The T-1000 briefly reforms with spikes protruding from its back, knocking the off their feet before completely reforming its body.
      • Elevating Hook: The The T-1000 briefly reforms with its arms as angled hooks and uppercuts the opponent into the air for a juggle before reforming its body.
      • Form Reversion: The T-1000 simply reforms its body without traversing the arena.
  • Sacral Spike: The T-1000 liquifies its lower body and sends a spiked trail of metal towards the opponent, with a giant spike emerging to stab them and knock them off their feet. If the opponent is close to the spiked trail, they take additional damage. Depending on an input, the T-1000 can alter the direction of the large spike, which will knock the opponent off their feet in different direction, this being towards or away from the T-1000, called Posterior/Anterior Sacral Spike, respectively.
    • Enhancing the attack deals increased damage and activates the attack significantly faster.
  • (Air) Massive Droplet: While airborne, the T-1000 transforms into a giant liquid mass and drops down, landing on the opponent before reforming its body, knocking the opponent away. (MK1)
    • Enhancing the attack deals no extra damage, however it puts the T-1000 into its Superfluid State identical to performing Superfluid Matter, allowing it to use its follow-up attacks.
  • Amorphous Step: The T-1000 liquifies its body while retaining humanoid shape and starts walking towards the opponent. The T-1000 gains Armor for one hit, after which any attack after ends the effect prematurely and causes it to liquify to the ground and reform its body. While walking forward, the T-1000 can perform additional attacks; (MK1)
    • Enhancing the attack grants Armor for three hits rather than one. Enhancing the attack also causes all follow-up attacks to be enhanced as well, where they deal increased damage.
      • Amorphous Hooks: The T-1000 performs Acute Angle Hooks, retaining the original properties of both version of the attack.
      • Liquiform Suplex: The T-1000 grabs the opponent by the wrists, then performs a release-suplex in the opposite direction before reforming and driving its angled hook hand into their back and slamming them in their original position. This attack is a High Command Grab and is unblockable, although it can miss jumping or ducking opponents. This attack deals increased damage if the opponent is Up Blocking.
      • Form Reversion: The T-1000 simply changes back to normal and stops walking.
      • Superfluid Matter: The T-1000 activates Superfluid Matter, retaining the original properties. Performing this version of the attack can only be done after performing the enhanced version of Amorphous Step and costs an additional bar of Super Meter.

Fatal Blow

  • Fluid Kombatant: The T-1000 extend its arm into a giant blade, stabbing and stunning the opponent. It then runs up to them and impales them with both its arm-blades, repositions its self, slamming the opponent on the ground in the opposite direction before stabbing the downed opponent through their with a metal pole, shattering their spine, ribcage and destroying their shoulder blades. (MK1)

Other Moves

  • Shove (Forward Throw): The T-1000 pushes the opponent forward, dealing minimal damage. This Throw is performed when a Kameo Fighter is unavailable for a normal Forward Throw. (MK1)
  • Transpositional Cuffs (Backwards Throw): The T-1000 grips the opponent's wrists before enveloping them with its liquified mass and emerging behind them, hooking their hands behind their back and knocking them away with a front kick to the back. (MK1)
  • Sagittal Slice: The T-1000 raises its arm-blade and slams it over the opponent's head, bouncing them off the ground for a brief juggle. When used on an airborne or juggle opponent, they will take additional damage from its raised arm-blade should they make contact with it. The attack can be delayed or canceled. Delaying the attack grants an increased juggle effect. (MK1)
  • Multiplanar Laceration: The T-1000 slashes the opponent across the chest with an arm blade, stabs them in the stomach with another blade and starts swinging its morphed arms while walking forward, similarly to Baraka's Chop Chop. (MK1)
  • Ethmoid Lance: The T-1000 elbows the opponent in the face, knees them in the stomach then puts them in a half-nelson hold, creating a third arm from its mid-section that stabs the opponent in the jaw with a metal spike. This combo acts as a High Command Grab and is unblockable, but can miss jumping or ducking opponents. The final Throw of this combo deals increased damage if the opponent is Up Blocking. (MK1)
  • Manifold Perforation: The T-1000 extends one of its index fingers into a long sharp blade, poking the opponent in the face, then kicks them in the shin before stabbing them again with its index finger through their shoulder and walking forward while firing four shots of its Beretta into their stomach and one to their chest. (MK1)
  • Femoral Stab: The T-1000 stomps on the opponent's foot and stabs them in the thigh with a finger blade. The second hit of this string puts the opponent in a restand position. The T-1000 can follow this kombo attack up:
    • Nasal Pierce: After performing Femoral Stab, the T-1000 drives a finger-blade into the opponent's jaw from below and pierces through their head before liquifying its head and delivering a solid metal headbutt, knocking them away. (MK1)
  • Liquid Spear: While in the air, the T-1000 slashes the opponent with an arm-blade, extends its other arm as an arm-blade to stab the opponent before stabbing them through them chest and pinning them to the ground. (MK1)

Fatalities

  • Judgment Day: The T-1000 walks off-screen, only for headlights to shine in the opponent's face, where he returns with a damaged tow truck and drives it at the opponent. As they are stuck to the front of the vehicle, he pushes out the windshield and morphs in front of the opponent and unloads on them with a submachine gun. The truck then crashes and explodes, killing the opponent while the T-1000 emerges, reforming and walking away. (MK1)
  • To Oppose And Harm: The T-1000 shapeshifts into its opponent, then extends its index finger and stabs them through the eye. It then transforms its arm into a large blade, stabbing the opponent through the hand and mouth before picking them up and tears them in half from the head down with its hook arms. (MK1)

Brutalities

  • The Klassic: The T-1000 performs its uppercut, decapitating the opponent with a rising slash of its arm-blade.
  • Metal Man: The T-1000 performs its Backwards Throw, but after phasing behind the opponent, it forcibly rips their arms off, leaving them to bleed to death before dissolving into a metallic puddle.
  • Dead Man Switch: The T-1000 performs its Manifold Perforation combo, but instead of shooting the opponent, it walks toward them and promptly stabs the opponent through the chest with its arm-blade, instantly killing them.
  • Closed Loop: The T-1000 performs its Multiplanar Laceration combo, with the string ending with it relentlessly slashing at the opponent, tearing them apart.
  • Polyalloy Puddle: The T-1000 performs its Ethmoid Lance combo, only it instead throws them backward before assuming the opponent's form. As the opponent stands confused, it promptly skewers them through the mouth with its arm-blade.
  • Mimetic Mortality: The T-1000 performs a Liquiform Suplex from its Amorphous Step, only it instead envelopes the opponent in its liquid form. As the opponent struggles in vain, the T-1000 then forcibly rips itself off of the opponent, stripping them down to the bone from the neck down.
  • Headshot: The T-1000 performs either an enhanced Ballistic Suppression or Ballistic Approach, with the final shot blowing the opponent's head clean off.
  • Next Time: The T-1000 performs its Abductive Splitter combo, slicing the opponent in half at the midsection.

Other Finishers

  • Animality - Wolfie's Just Fine: The T-1000 transforms into a K-9 unit German Shepard and begins to maul the opponent before ripping off their head. (MK1)

Ending

  • Mortal Kombat 1 (narrated by Liu Kang): "How the Terminator came to this timeline is unknown. The danger he poses to it, sadly not. As he began his murderous rampage, all in the realms stood horrified. All, that is, except Sektor. To her, he was the perfect weapon. One that, once added to its arsenal, would make the Lin Kuei invincible. Upon capturing him, Sektor worked feverishly to commandeer the Terminator's cybernetic mind. But she underestimated his machine intelligence. He broke free and quickly seized control of Sektor's factory. Soon, it was producing terminators by the thousands. They have caused death and destruction on a scale unimaginable. Not even my godly power can stop them. Our options and our time are running out. If we cannot soon find an answer, this timeline's flesh and blood beings will be obliterated."

Trivia

General

  • The T-1000 is the second guest character to come from the Terminator franchise after The Terminator.
  • The T-1000 is based its appearance in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, with Robert Patrick reprising the role as the character through voice and serving as the model.
    • This makes the T-1000 one of the few guest characters where their original actor reprises their role as the character in full capacity.
  • Before its appearance in Mortal Kombat 1, similar to Ghostface, the T-1000 was a playable operator in the first-person shooter game Call of Duty.
  • Like the other characters in the Kombat Pack 2, the T-1000 was leaked beforehand several times through datamining.
  • The T-1000 is the fifth guest character to be a selectable announcer.[1] Other guests include RoboCop, Omni-Man, Ghostface and Conan.
  • The T-1000 is the fourth guest character to be of Evil alignment that doesn't originate from a horror/slasher series, following The Joker, Omni-Man, and Homelander.
    • This is in direct contrast to the reprogrammable T-800 seen in Mortal Kombat 11, in which the T-1000's molecular brain grants it a level of self-awareness and allows it to ignore its orders from Skynet. An example of this is seen in its Arcade Ending, in which it changes its objective from finding John Connor and instead targets people of the Mortal Kombat Universe instead, causing Judgment Day in the process.

Mortal Kombat 1

  • The T-1000 is the second guest character since Kratos in Mortal Kombat (2011) to have specific reactions to Fatalities, as the cyborg lacks emotions. It is also the first guest to have no reactions to Fatal Blows.
    • Although the T-800 does not react to its own Fatality, I'm Back, this is the only Fatality in which it has no reaction to.
    • Some reactions include the following;
      • It does not scream or react to ripping off its own jaw or head during Quan Chi's Final Offering Fatality.
      • Despite fleeing from Ghostface, it does not react or say anything when intercepted by the second Ghostface in their Planning The Sequel Fatality.
      • It does not react to its face being melted and then destroyed by Homelander during his This Is Your Fault, though it give signs of slight pain from the heat.
      • It does not react when getting shot by Peacemaker during his Pest Exterminator Fatality.
        • It also has no expression or reaction during his Flight Delayed To Rest Fatality.
      • It properly reacts to Sektor's Cyber Crematorium due to extreme heat being a method of killing the T-1000.
      • It properly reacts to Shang Tsung's Side Effects Fatality due to melting from the inside.
        • It also doesn't really react to the miniature dragon in his Feeding Time Fatality.
      • The T-1000 does not scream or show fear when being spun during Shao's Spin Cycle Fatality.
      • Similar to both Kung Lao's Fatalities, it does not react to being sliced up by his hat.
        • It also doesn't scream or show agonizing pain from being cut in half during his Axe-ident Fatality.
      • It doesn't react to the dragons summoned by Liu Kang during his Double Dragon Fatality, unlike others that scream in fear.
        • It also has no reaction to being sucked into a black hole during Liu Kang's Spaghettification Fatality.
      • It does not react to being stabbed by Havik during his RAD-ius Incision Fatality.
      • It featured modified reactions to both of Omni-Man's Fatalities;
        • The T-1000 reacts to the oncoming train in his Trained Killer Fatality but hardly reacts to it colliding with all the passengers in the train. Additionally, the T-1000 will be slightly covered in blood, while Omni-Man has no trace of blood on him.
        • The T-1000 does not scream or react to its head being crushed in his Like Putty Fatality, although its head gives the same facial expression as all other characters after being decapitated.
      • It does not react to Ermac's Vitruvian Maim Fatality at all.
  • The T-1000 also has unique traits when a Fatality is performed on it;
    • Certain Fatalities, as well as some Brutalities, do not actually kill the T-1000, due to its regeneration capabilities.
      • This makes the T-1000 the second guest character that does not actually die during Fatalities after Jason Voorhees due to his immortal status.
    • It features false organs, a skeleton and muscular system. This is simply for gameplay purposes, as it does not actually possess any of these in its origin franchise due to it being comprised entirely of liquid metal.
    • When a Fatality is performed on it, its body and body parts will turn entirely silver.
  • With the above note, there are some Fatalities that do actually kill the T-1000. These include the following;
    • Ashrah
      • Heavenly Light: Scorches the T-1000 in a similar fashion to it being damaged by hydrofluoric acid, which is an actual acid that can damage and kill it.
    • Conan
      • Secret Ingredient: The acid in the cauldron melts the T-1000 like the previous note.
    • Cyrax
      • Burst Your Bubble: The bombs damage the T-1000 in a similar manner to it being shot with a grenade launcher by the T-800 in Judgment Day, which damaged it so severely that its regeneration malfunctioned.
      • Self-Destruct: Kameo Cyrax absurdly destroys the planet, thus killing the T-1000.
    • Havik
      • Atomic Heart: Destroys the T-1000's upper body with the explosion of his heart.
    • Homelander
      • This Is Your Fault: Damages and melts the T-1000 with his heat vision.
    • Kitana
      • Last Kiss: Melts the T-1000, similar to it melting from hydrofluoric acid.
    • Li Mei
      • Grand Finale: Blows the T-1000 up, which is a typical way of killing it when she summons her spirit Lion.
    • Liu Kang
      • Spaghettification: Sucks the T-1000 into a black hole in outer space.
    • Reptile
      • Indigestion: The acid nature of Reptile's stomach acid and acid spit melts the T-1000 like hydrofluoric acid.
    • Sektor
      • Cyber Crematorium: Destroys the T-1000 with her blast palms and high power flamethrower, with the heat strong enough to damage it.
      • The Right Stuff: Destroys the T-1000 upon exiting the exosphere.
    • Shang Tsung
      • Side Effects: Dissolves the T-1000 with the chemicals Shang Tsung made.
    • Motaro
      • Brain Blast: Destroys the T-1000 with the direct tail shot when stabbing it in the head.
    • Stryker
      • Safety Vest: Destroys the T-1000 with the explosive vest he attaches to it.
  • Similar to past guest characters, the T-1000 has a unique visual when an X-Ray effect is used on it.
    • It is also the only guest character to lack an X-Ray effect entirely, as its body will instead turn entirely silver when an attack damages it. This is due to lacking an endoskeleton like the T-800.
  • The T-1000 is the third character in Mortal Kombat to not make any vocalizations in a fight, the first being Jason Voorhees and the second being The Terminator.
    • However, while performing a Brutality on the T-1000, a screeching sound can be heard emitting from the cyborg. This is likely a reference to its demise in Judgment Day, when it produced similar "screams" of agony while melting in a vat of molten metal.
  • Unlike the T-800's appearance in Mortal Kombat 11, the T-1000 actually does not react when being struck by attacks, just like its appearance in its origin franchise.
  • Similar to its origin franchise, the T-1000 will transform its arms into make-shift weapons such as knifes, blades and other stabbing weapons. In some instances of gameplay, it will transform parts of its body into Mortal Kombat weapons, such as Kabal's Hook Swords or Shao Kahn's Wrath Hammer.
    • The metal pole used by the T-1000 is actually the same pole used when it fought the T-800 in the climax of the second film, using it to initially kill its inferior counterpart. Some have mistaken this to be Jade's Bo Staff.
  • Like all guest characters, the T-1000's interactions with other characters, as well as its movelist, Fatalities, Brutalities have references to its origin franchise as well as actor Robert Patrick who played the character;
    • Its first Fatality, Judgment Day is a reference to many things in the Terminator franchise;
      • Judgment Day is the day Skynet, an artificial intelligence, becomes self-aware and launches a nuclear holocaust against many major countries across the globe, bringing forth the apocalyptic landscape seen in the Terminator franchise on August 29th, 1997. Judgment Day occurs in different timelines at different dates, as it was thought to be prevented in the second film in the series, only to occur at a different date, predicted by the T-850, as Judgment Day still occur only about 7 years later on July 25th, 2004, depicted in the third film Rise of the Machines.
      • Judgment Day is also the name of the second film in the series, Judgment Day, in which the T-1000 makes its cinematic debut in the series.
      • The Fatality itself is a reference to many scenes in the second film, particularly when the T-1000 steals a semi-truck to chase down series protagonist John Connor on his dirt bike, only for it to be thwarted by the T-800 sent to protect John.
      • The MP5K used during the Fatality is a reference to the T-1000 using one after stealing the identity of a motorcycle officer and chasing the protagonists in a helicopter.
    • Its second Fatality, To Oppose And Harm, is also a reference to many scenes in the second film;
      • When transforming into the opponent and stabbing them through the face with its finger, this is taken from a scene in a psychiatric ward where Sarah Connor is held, in which the T-1000 attempts to assassinate her by killing and masquerade as a security guard that works there.
      • The following part of the Fatality in which the T-1000 stabs the opponent through the mouth is a reference to the death of John's adoptive father Todd Voight, where the T-1000 had secretly transformed into John's adoptive mother Janelle.
      • The final part of the Fatality where it rips the opponent in half with its hands as squared spikes is a reference to a scene inside the psyche ward where the T-1000 rips open an elevator door John and his mother are in and tries to kill them, only to be shot in the face by the T-800.
      • The name of the Fatality is also a reverse pun towards a known motto for law enforcement; "To protect and serve".
    • Its Intros are references to scenes in the second film as well;
      • When the T-1000 is knocked away and part of its spiked hand is broken off, it walks up to the piece where it reforms into its foot. This is identical to a scene after the protagonists escape the psyche ward and the T-800 shot off the T-1000's hand to help them get away.
      • When it knocks the opponent away, it reforms its bladed hand back to a normal hand. This was done right after the T-1000 kills John's foster parents.
        • Its Outro is also a reference to the final moments of this scene but reversed. The original scene has it standing in the kitchen as Janelle before changing back to itself and leaving John's house, while the Outro has the T-1000 change into the opponent in a similar manner to the scene.
      • Also during this Intro, the T-1000 wags its finger at the opponent. It does this in the climax of the film when Sarah fails to kill it by shooting it into molten metal, wagging its finger after it regenerates and she has ran out of ammo.
    • When selecting fighters before a match, the T-1000 appears crouched in a Time Sphere before standing and assuming its idle pose. This is a reference to many of the Terminator films, as all Terminators appear in the past through a Time Sphere while in a crouched position.
    • An interaction with Peacemaker has the anti-villain horrified at the look of the T-1000, saying it looks just like his father Auggie Smith. This is a reference to Robert Patrick, the T-1000's actor, portraying Peacemaker's father in the Peacemaker television series.
    • An interaction with Conan has the cyborg compare the barbarian's looks to the T-800. This is a reference to Conan and the original Terminator sharing the same actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  • After performing a Brutality with the T-1000, the player can cause its body to shift between its normal form and its silver metallic form by pressing Stance Swap and Block simultaneously.
  • Like The Terminator and later Conan, the T-1000's Arcade Ending is not narrated by the machine, instead being narrated by Liu Kang.
  • The T-1000 is the only character whose Gear grants it entire alternate costumes, equipping it with various sets of upper body wear based on law enforcement.
  • Like Conan, prior to its fighting game debut in Mortal Kombat 1, the T-1000 served as the inspiration of several fighting game characters such as Glacius from Killer Instinct, Dural from Virtua Fighter, and Twelve from Street Fighter.
    • Additionally, the T-1000's Closed Loop Brutality is a full-circle reference to Jax's Slice-N-Dice Fatality from Mortal Kombat 3, which in of itself was a reference to the T-1000.

Errors

  • Several of the selectable announcers do not announce the T-1000 as the victor after winning a match.
  • While the T-1000 mostly turns silver after a fatality is performed on it, this does not occur in some fatalities.
    • During Kameo Sub-Zero's Spine Rip Fatality, the T-1000's head does not turn silver.
    • The T-1000's head also does not turn silver during Li Mei's Grand Finale Fatality.
    • The T-1000's throat is not slashed during Ghostface's Planning The Sequel Fatality.
    • The T-1000 does not turn silver during the Thanksgiving Seasonal Fatality or Kameo Kung Lao's Klean Kut fatality.
  • Also, when being stabbed during his Slashing The Fourth Wall Fatality, no stab wounds are visible on the T-1000 during and after the Fatality.
  • Liu Kang refers to the T-1000 as male in the narration of its Arcade Ending. Model 1000 units are not designated by gender due to their shapeshifting.
