The Field is an unlockable stage introduced in Mortal Kombat 1. Added alongside Conan's release on January 21st, it is unlocked by defeating the secret character Floyd.
Overview
The arena is an open field with tall grasses enveloping the fightline and a setting sun in the background. It is based on the open field seen in the cinematic reveal trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 as well as its first Kombat Pack.
Added alongside the secret fight against Floyd, it is used as the arena for the fight once he is encountered.
A Night variation of the stage was added in an update, with the large, bright moon in the background giving the stage a purple hue. This variant is unlocked by beating the secret Floyd Tower in Towers of Time, which only appears at random every 4 hours provided you have already defeated Floyd once and unlocked the Field stage (Sunset variant).
Trivia
- This is the only stage in Mortal Kombat 1 to not have the announcer say the stage's name when selecting it, instead saying "Outstanding", which is reused from other modes in the game. This implies that that the stage was added much later in development, after voiceover work for the game concluded, hence the absence of a voice clip of all of the available announcers saying the stage's name. Additionally, the default announcer is always used when selecting it, regardless of the announcer chosen.
- This is the only stage which is not usable in Tournament mode.
- The soundtrack from this stage shares elements with the Wu Shi Academy (Sunset) stage but with less layers of instruments used.
- The track was also arranged in such a way that the third round music from Wu Shi Academy (Sunset) plays at the first round of this stage.
