Overview |
The Rooftop is an arena in Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Mortal Kombat (2011). This part of the building is situated somewhere in a city somewhere on Earth.
Overview[]
This arena is sometimes referred to as The Roof. This is the rooftop of the Bank stage and like the interior, the Mortal Kombat Logo appears on the floor despite this being an Earthrealm location unaffiliated with the spiritual elements of the franchise. It also has a better view of the city and Shao Kahn's Fortress. Stone gargoyles line the edge of the building. This place served as the battleground between Sonya Blade and Kano in MK3, the former emerging victorious and the latter plummeting all the way down to the ground. The fact that the Chrysler Building is visible in the background leads to the presumption that the rooftop, and therefore the bank, is in New York City.
In Mortal Kombat (2011), The Rooftop is complete with a small water tower on it, and has 3 versions: one at daytime during the Outworld invasion, one at nighttime during the invasion as well, and one after the invasion showcasing the destruction. Shao Kahn's Throne appears in the stage during and after the invasion. The Portal Kahn uses to enter Earthrealm is seen in the nighttime stage. In the daytime stage, military helicopters can be seen battling Outworld's flying monsters and will occasionally strafe the rooftop with machinegun fire (though the players take no damage).
In the Story Mode, the final battle between Raiden and Shao Kahn takes place on the rooftop at nighttime.
Trivia[]
- The Chrysler Building is featured in the background, so this arena may possibly be based in New York City. This is further supported in Mortal Kombat (2011), with the presence of Kurtis Stryker and Kabal, members of the New York City Police Department.
