—Peacemaker to Rain in Mortal Kombat 1 |
Christopher "Chris" Smith, also known as [The] Peacemaker, is an anti-villain known for his appearance in the DC Universe in both comics and media. A violent vigilante known for achieving peace at any cost, he is a member of Task Force X, also known as The Suicide Squad.
Peacemaker made his debut as a playable guest character in Mortal Kombat 1 as the third character available through DLC as part of the Kombat Pack.
About Peacemaker
Christopher "Chris" Smith was born in 1981 to Auggie Smith, an infamous small-town racist who began to train his son to become a killer at a young age. He found solitude in his close relationship with his brother Keith, whom the two shared a love for glam metal music. Tragically, Chris accidentally killed his brother after being instigated by Auggie for "hitting like a girl", when he pitted them to fight in front of a crowd for bets. This event traumatized Chris for the rest of his life and led to further animosity from his father, as he had favored Keith over him.
As he became mentally unstable growing up, Chris adopted the identity as the superhero known as Peacemaker, swearing an oath to preserve his vision of "peace" by any means necessary, no matter the cost. Chris was eventually arrested by A.R.G.U.S. and was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his crimes as a vigilante, after which he would be recruited into Task Force X by A.R.G.U.S. leader Amanda Waller in exchange for a reduced sentence. Unbeknownst to the rest of his team members, Chris was recruited as a double-agent by Waller to ensure that the United States' involvement in "Project Starfish" would never become internationally known due to its political implications, which leads him to eventually betray Task Force X when their leader Rick Flag learns of the classified information and becomes determined to leak it to the world. After killing Flag, Chris was seriously wounded by Bloodsport and left to die, as Bloodsport successfully negotiated a deal with Waller to allow the surviving members of Task Force X to go free.
A comatose Chris survived the ordeal. After being released from the hospital, Waller recruits him into Task Force X again for a mission called "Project Butterfly".
Appearance
Peacemaker's appearance is taken directly from his appearances in The Suicide Squad and the Peacemaker television series, with John Cena reprising his role from both within the DCEU Universe.

Combat Characteristics
Powers and Abilities
Being trained relentlessly by his father, Chris became an expert in hand-to-hand combat and a deadly accurate marksman. He is able to use nearly any weapon given to him with lethal efficiency. He has training in Wrestling, Muay Thai, Judo, Fencing and Combat Shooting. Although he possesses many different helmets with different functionalities in the Peacemaker television series, his helmet during his appearance in Mortal Kombat 1 gives him the abilities of several of his helmets, granting him superhuman speed and a variety of abilities to brutal and gruesome effects.
Signature Moves
- Silent And Deadly: Peacemaker quickly pulls out a blow dart and shoots a small green projectile into the air. This attack can only be used on juggled or airborne opponents. Peacemaker can delay the attack and can delay the attack indefinitely. While delaying, Peacemaker can also advance or retreat from the opponent, called Move Left/Right, respectively. Peacemaker can also cancel the attack, where he simply puts his blow dart away, called (Cancel) Silent And Deadly, respectively. (MK1)
- Force Multiplier: Peacemaker pulls out his sidearm and fires a shot straight at the opponent. (MK1)
- Enhancing the attack has Peacemaker fire two additional shots for increased damage. The final shot will re-stand the opponent and acts as a soft stun, briefly stunning the opponent and setting them up for a free hit. The opponent collapses while stunned, and this is considered them in a juggled combo state, even when used on a standing opponent. Peacemaker can stun the opponent this way as many times as possible.
- Activate Human Torpedo!: Peacemaker shouts "Torpedo!", and his helmet activates a field of energy around him, where he charges head-first at the opponent, knocking the away and to the ground. Peacemaker can travel full-screen distance to strike the opponent. This attack can miss ducking opponents. (MK1)
- Enhancing the attack grants Armor and deals increased damage.
- Activate Anti-Gravity: Peacemaker shouts "Anti-Gravity!" and grabs his helmet as it picks him up and carries him into the air offscreen before landing on top of the opponent, knocking them to the ground. Peacemaker can also change where he lands, this being behind or in front of the opponent, called (In Front/Behind) Activate Anti-Gravity, respectively. If the opponent happens to be too close or move in the direction of where Peacemaker lands when using these versions of the attack, they will take damage. Peacemaker can also cancel the landing where he will descend above the opponent to perform airborne attacks, called Activate Anti-Gravity Soft Landing, respectively. This attack is capable of being Up Blocked by the opponent, leaving Peacemaker completely vulnerable after the attack is blocked by the opponent. (MK1)
- The enhanced version is called Enhanced Anti-Gravity Escape which has the helmet pull Peacemaker away from the opponent. Peacemaker can still perform the alternate versions of this attack is he chooses to. Even if Peacemaker does not perform an alternate version, he can perform airborne attacks if he wants to while retreating.
- Activate Force Field: Peacemaker shouts "Force field!" and an energy field surrounds his body. During this time, Peacemaker is immune to the next two projectiles against him for a short time, with the exception of projectile-based Fatal Blow. Sustaining damage, with the exception of damage-over-time effects, connecting, activating or being struck by a Fatal Blow, as well as activating a Kameo Ability that grants projectile immunity will end this effect prematurely. (MK1)
- Enhancing the attack has Peacemaker recover from the attack significantly faster and briefly creates a yellow force field around Peacemaker before turning into the normal blue field around his body. While the yellow force field is active for its brief time, it will reflect projectiles and their properties back at the opponent, in addition to creating a non-damaging pushback effect if the opponent is close to Peacemaker.
- Activate Sonic Boom: Peacemaker shouts "Sonic boom!" and discharges a large sonic wave from his helmet, knocking the opponent into the air and away from Peacemaker. Peacemaker can continue combos in some instances, however this window is very small. This opportunity is greatly increased when used in the corner of the arena. This opportunity is also present if the opponent jumps at Peacemaker. This attack is considered a projectile. (MK1)
- Enhancing the attack deals increased damage and has Peacemaker recover from the attack much faster, allowing him to perform airborne attacks after used.
- Ground-Air Offense: Peacemaker shouts "Eagly!", jumping in the air and rolling as his pet eagle, Eagly, flies in and collides with the opponent's legs, knocking them into the air for a brief juggle behind Peacemaker. If Eagly is unavailable, Peacemaker will simply jump and roll in the air. This attack is considered a projectile. (MK1)
- Beautiful Bird Bullet: Peacemaker shouts "Eagly!", doing a backwards leapfrog as Eagly flies straight at the opponent, knocking the opponent into the air and away from Peacemaker. Peacemaker can continue combos in some instances, however this window is very small. This opportunity is greatly increased when used in the corner of the arena. This attack is considered a projectile. (MK1)
- The Ultimately Ally: Peacemaker shouts "Eagly!" and calls him to the fightline. If the opponent's Kameo Fighter is on the fightline, Eagly will attack them and disable them for a duration. During this time, the opponent lose 6% health as Eagly attacks their Kameo Fighter through damage-over-time. If Peacemaker takes damage, with the exception of damage-over-time effects, Eagly will stop attacking and fly away. Peacemaker is unable to perform Ground-Air Offense and Beautiful Bird Bullet while this attack is being used. Additionally, while the opponent's Kameo is being attacked, they will no longer take damage from Peacemaker nor will the main fighter take additional damage if Peacemaker performs his Fatal Blow, even if the opponent's Kameo is near the Fatal Blow's start-up. (MK1)
Fatal Blow
- Eat Peace: Peacemaker pulls out an assault rifle and plays air guitar with it before firing a barrage of sweeping bullets at the opponent's legs, causing them to stumble backwards. Eagly then flies in and attacks the opponent, clawing and pecking at their face where Peacemaker approaches with a shotgun. He smacks them in the face with the butt of the firearm then performs a trick shot under his groin, shooting the opponent in the chest, with the pellets of the shotgun blast forming a peace symbol in the opponent's body as it destroys and shatters their ribcage, shoulder blades and spine in the process. (MK1)
Other Moves
- Red And Blue Angel (Backwards Throw): Peacemaker pulls out a shield, smacking the opponent high into the air before slamming them down on the ground with his shield. (MK1)
- Head On Approach: Peacemaker punches the opponent twice then grabs them, performing a leaping headbutt, causing them to stumble backwards. This combo acts as a High Command Grab and is unblockable, but can miss jumping or ducking opponents. The final hit of this combo deals increased damage if the opponent is Up Blocking. After successfully performing this attack, Peacemaker can perform the enhanced version of special attacks, Beautiful Bird Bullet, if Eagly is available, Kameo Attacks and his Fatal Blow. Connecting this combo twice in the same combo does not offer this bonus, rather knocking the opponent to the ground. (MK1)
- Putting The Hurt Down: Peacemaker hits the opponent with a backfist, follows up with a knee strike and grabs them by the throat, lifting them off the ground and performing a single-handed chokeslam. This combo acts as a Command Grab and is unblockable to ducking opponents, but can miss standing or jumping opponents. (MK1)
Fatalities
- Pest Exterminator: Peacemaker sees, to his horror, that a Butterfly exits the opponent's mouth. He then pulls out one of his shotguns and repeatedly tries to shoot the alien parasite, missing and shooting off both the opponent's arms and one of their legs, missing every shot at the alien. The Butterfly flies near center-mass, where Peacemaker takes a final shot, blowing a hole through the opponent's torso where they fall dead. The Butterfly, flies onto the barrel of his shotgun. where he grabs the parasite and crushes it in his hand, finally killing it. (MK1)
- Flight Delayed to Rest: Peacemaker straps on a jetpack before propelling himself at the opponent and grabbing them at the torso, tearing off their upper body. After flying for a while, he slams the opponent to the ground and shouts "Activate Sonic Boom!", producing a sonic shockwave that blasts off the opponent's skin. Peacemaker, covered in some of the opponent's blood, then feeds a chunk of their flesh to Eagly. (MK1)
Brutalities
- The Klassic: Peacemaker performs his uppercut, decapitating the opponent with a rising uppercut.
- Shield Of Peace!: Peacemaker performs his Red And Blue Angel backward throw, slamming on their neck with his shield, decapitating them.
- Boom Boom!: Peacemaker performs Activate Sonic Boom that obliterates the opponent and knocks him on his butt, with him commenting "Alright, that might be a little overkill".
- What Does That Do?: After Peacemaker performs his Head On Approach combo, he throws a grenade attached to a Russian tank shell at the opponent. Before it explodes, he voice-activated his helmet to "Force Field" to save himself.
- Human Torpedo: Peacemaker performs Activate Human Torpedo! and smashes through the opponent, obliterating them.
- Wait For It: Peacemaker performs Force Multiplier and assumes his victory pose as the opponent's upper body is blown up by an exploding compression bullet after a few seconds.
- Drop 'Em!: Peacemaker performs the Total Kommitment Kick, knocking the opponent's head and arms off.
- Death From Above: Peacemaker performs Activate Anti-Gravity, crushing his opponent with a body press.
Other Finishers
- Animality - Proud To Be Eagly-merican: Peacemaker transforms into a bald eagle and is joined by Eagly as they pose with their wings in front of a screen of red, white and blue lights before flying at the opponent and severing their legs with their wings. Peacemaker fires a pair of dual assault rifles at the opponent from behind, riddling them with bullets as Eagly drops an unpinned grenade in front of them, with the resulting explosion reducing the opponent to nothing but a skull that Peacemaker lands on as Eagly flies an American flag behind him. (MK1)

Ending
- Mortal Kombat 1: "Project Starfish? Project Butterfly? Crazy town. Both of them. But neither was as fucked up as Project Magician. I was in way over my head with Eclipso, I mean, the dude's a goddamned god. Somehow, though, I got his back to the wall. Freaked him so bad he cast a spell that sent me here. I guess he thought sending me here would finish me? But I tell you, I feel like I've come home. This place needs peace, bad. And, like me, folks here will do whatever it takes to get it. So bring on Shao, Reiko, and those dickhead sorcerers. I'll drop 'em all first chance I get."

Mortal Kombat 1
- Peacemaker's Victory Pose is a direct reference to the opening credits sequence in the Peacemaker television series.
- Butterflies make an appearance in the game, having a set chance to appear from the opponent's remains after some of Peacemaker's Brutalities and his Pest Exterminator Fatality.
- Interestingly, Butterflies kill their host by destroying their brain to take control, however during the Fatality, the opponent that is the host is still alive when it leaves their body through their mouth.
- Like all guest characters, Peacemaker's move set contains multiple references to his appearances in the DC Extended Universe:
- His Boom Boom! brutality and the final part of Flight Delayed to Rest are references to a scene from the Peacemaker episode "A Whole New Whirled", in which he uses Sonic Boom to obliterate a woman controlled by a Butterfly when she attacked him after sex.
- His What Does That Do? brutality references a scene from the Peacemaker episode "Monkey Dory", where he uses an improvised explosive made from a hand grenade and a Russian tank shell to wipe out a horde of butterfly-controlled factory workers.
- His usage of a KSG shotgun in Pest Exterminator also references the same episode, in which he uses it to raid the Glan-Tai factory.
- His Wait For It brutality references a scene from The Suicide Squad, in which Peacemaker uses a bullet to explode one of his victims in an attempt to outshine Bloodsport during a mission.
- An interaction with Kung Lao has him say "The Peacemaker? What a joke.", directly referencing Rick Flag's final line to Peacemaker after the latter killed him in The Suicide Squad.
- An interaction with Sindel has her call Peacemaker's father a "real charmer" despite him being a bigoted racist.
- Ashrah will also point out "evil branches" in Peacemaker's family tree in one of their interactions.
- Geras will mention Peacemaker's childhood trauma in one of their interactions. As a child, Peacemaker accidentally killed his brother after his father Auggie pitted them against each other for bets. Auggie also had his son stab a man to death as he trained him to become a killer.
- Peacemaker is armed with Kryptonite bullets, revealing this in an interaction with Omni-Man. Omni-Man is based off of Superman, whose principal weakness is Kryptonite.
- An interaction between Homelander compares Aquaman and The Deep, as rumors are frequently spread about Aquaman having sex with fish, which Peacemaker has commented on.
- In Peacemaker's ending, Eclipso is mentioned in an account where Peacemaker did battle with him. Eclipso is a DC Comics villain, and a powerful magic entity and the original spirit of God's wrath.
- Peacemaker's Animality where he becomes an eagle, aided by his pet eagle sidekick Eagly has a starting high five scene that pays a homage to a popular DC Superhero and Sidekick duo team, which begin with Batman and Dick Grayson (as a Robin). The end of his Animality where Eagly brought an United States flag behind him reference to a bald eagle being an animal symbol of the country.
Errors
- As with many characters, Peacemaker's sidearm incorrectly swaps sides when he changes stance.
- With its change to being a High attack instead of Mid, in some instances, if the opponent pokes or performs a low attack on Peacemaker when he performs an enhanced Activate Human Torpedo!, Peacemaker will levitate in place before falling to the ground rather than fly over the opponent like intended.
