Peter Jason as Master Boyd

I see the press is still givin' ya a hard time.

—Master Boyd, Mortal Kombat (film)

Master Boyd appeared briefly in the first Mortal Kombat movie. He seems to be one of Johnny Cage's martial arts instructors, to whom Johnny shows much respect and admiration. He informs Johnny of Shang Tsung's tournament. He claimed that if Johnny were to win this competition the entire world would be informed that Johnny's martial arts prowess was not fake, as tabloids had been falsely reporting.

A scroll in Johnny Cage's hands is his "invitation" to the Mortal Kombat tournament, given to by Master Boyd (Shang Tsung in disguise)

Master Boyd then gave Johnny Cage a scroll that is the invitation to the tournament and tells him to arrive there via a "boat" at the port in Hong Kong on time. He is later revealed to have been Shang Tsung in disguise, tricking Johnny Cage into participating in his tournament on his island.

Master Boyd reveals to be Shang Tsung in disguise

  • In both the movie script and the novelizations, his full name is revealed to be Bill Boyd.
  • Master Boyd is portrayed by Peter Jason.
  • As the source of Shang Tsung's transformations are never explained in the movie or novelization, many have interpreted this transformation to imply that Shang Tsung had killed Master Boyd and taken his soul. This is referenced in an intro between "1995 movie skin" Shang Tsung and Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath.[1]
