The Hourglass or Liu Kang's Hourglass is an arena that debuted in Mortal Kombat 11 as Kronika's Hourglass. It serves as the very location of the ancient Hourglass that once belonged to Kronika. It is also the first of three arenas that the player is to fight Kronika in her tower boss fight as well as being in the near end of the story mode of Mortal Kombat 11.
All realms are tied to the Hourglass so if the Hourglass is destroyed, all realms will disappear.
This stage reappears in Mortal Kombat 1 as The Hourglass. This version of the Hourglass is tied to current timeline, crafted by Fire God Liu Kang.
Overview[]
Existing beyond the realms, the Hourglass regulates time and destiny. It is watched over by its eternal guardian, Geras.
The Hourglass is a sight to behold, in both its ravaged and mended states. What took place here will not soon be forgotten.[1]
Trivia[]
- Art of this arena is in the steelbook of Mortal Kombat 11.
- Despite being called "Kronika's Hourglass", every announcer, with the exception of Johnny Cage, will always refer to it as "The Hourglass".
- This is also the same for the Prehistoric Age and Chaotian Age versions of the arena.
- In Johnny Cage's announcer voice he referenced "tick tock you don't stop" which was reference to "Tik Tok" by hip-hop artist Kesha.
- In Patch 1.14, background interactions were added along with Prehistoric and Chaotian Age.
- It is possible that each version of the Hourglass in each timeline might look differently, as Shang Tsung's Hourglass was set in a pyramid that looked like the Pyramid of Argus.
