Kharon is a minor character that appears in the later Chapters of the Mortal Kombat 11 Story Mode. He is an immortal ferryman located between the realms just outside the Sea of Blood, where he takes damned souls to the Netherrealm.
Mortal Kombat 11
As the events of the Story Mode transpire, a younger variant of Raiden from the past and the other Earthrealm Champions regroup at the Shirai Ryu Fire Garden, the new home of Hanzo Hasashi and his reestablished Shirai Ryu. Raiden grows distraught over not knowing the location of Kronika's Keep in the Netherrealm where she plans to restart history. Hanzo and Kuai Liang suggest the aid of Kharon, a ferryman that traverses in a space between realms, where he takes souls that come to the Netherrealm across the Sea of Blood. Both Grandmasters had met Kharon during their times as Revenants and believe he will aid them in stopping Kronika.
In the Netherrealm at the Sea of Blood, Hanzo and Kuai Liang witness Kronika's forces traveling to the Keep. Due to the fleet being bound to Kharon, they believe he had refused to aid Kronika. Locating Kharon's home, the two hear commotion inside. Hanzo tasks Kuai Liang to return to Earthrealm to ready their forces. Hanzo tasks Kuai to return to Earthrealm to inform Raiden they had located Kharon's home, while Hanzo enters to ensure Kharon's safety. Inside, Kharon is seen incapacitated by D'Vorah, where Hanzo he fights and defeats her, but is also attacked by his younger variant. Having a change of heart after talking with his current counterpart, D'Vorah poisons the current Hanzo, where his younger variant attacks D'Vorah. Hanzo dies of his poisoning, where his younger variant delivers the message to Raiden that Kharon will aid them.
At the Gardens, a misunderstanding ensues, with the younger Hanzo variant stating Kharon will aid them in taking them to the Keep. After Raiden discards Shinnok's Amulet and trusts Scorpion, they take to the Netherrealm with the Shaolin, the Special Forces, the Outworld Army and the Tarkata, all aboard Kharon's fleet. Traversing the Sea of Blood, Kharon's fleet is intercepted by Geras and Frost alongside her army of Cyber Lin Kuei. A battle between ships ensues, with Kharon's fleet being protected by Raiden and his allies. the Revenant Liu Kang appears and is defeated by Raiden. Kharon and the others witness Raiden merge with the former Champion to become the God of Thunder and Fire. Kharon and his fleet are seen one final time as they make land at the Keep's beach and the invasion of the Keep commences.
Aftermath
In the altered timeline of Aftermath, Kharon still aids Raiden and his allies, however, Shang Tsung had manipulated events while forging a false alliance with Raiden, allowing a restored Sindel and Shao Kahn to commandeer part of Kharon's fleet. With half of his fleet hijacked and the timeline being further altered, Liu Kang never ascends to the God of Fire and Thunder and the Keep is invaded by Raiden's weakened forces and Shao Kahn's army.
