King Jerod

King Jerrod in Mortal Kombat (2011)

King Jerrod, also known as Jerrod, also spelled as Jerod, is a minor character occasionally referenced in Sindel's backstory. He is described as once being the King of Edenia before he was defeated and killed by Shao Kahn after Edenia's finest warriors lost in Mortal Kombat. He was succeeded by his wife, Queen Sindel, and his only daughter, Princess Kitana, who were both captured by Kahn. His physical appearance is unknown as it has never been clearly shown in-game, but because he was from Edenia, it is assumed he was human-like and had lived for a very long time.

The beheaded statue of King Jerrod in Edenia.

It is of note, however, that a beheaded statue can be found in the Edenia realm in Mortal Kombat: Deception Konquest mode. The face appears to be of a bearded man. When the player talks to nearby non-player characters who are the denizens of Edenia, they will state: "The statue is of King Jerrod, who ruled Edenia many thousands of years ago."

In Sindel's Mortal Kombat: Armageddon ending, Jerrod is referenced once again. In it, she uses her new found powers as a goddess to resurrect her husband and reunite him with her and their daughter Kitana.

King Jerrod's downfall was depicted in the Malibu Comics Mortal Kombat comic books Kitana and Mileena: Sister Act, and the Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm episode Overthrown.

It is revealed in Ermac's ending of Mortal Kombat (2011) that one of the many souls that composes the being Ermac is King Jerrod, and when Ermac is freed of its enslavement, Jerrod's soul comes to power among the many. This newly focused Ermac now protects his wife and the people of Edenia. Whether this will come to be canon, is yet to be seen.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy

King Jerrod is portrayed by Kirby Morrow in Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

In Mortal Kombat: Legacy, Jerrod is not killed by Shao Kahn, instead he flees the attack while Sindel and Kitana are brought into Kahn's "family." In episode 5, Shao Kahn sends Kitana and Mileena to find and kill Jerrod. Kitana reaches Jerrod first, who recognizes her. As he attempts to explain to Kitana what truly happened, he is killed by Mileena. Mileena leaves, but Kitana rushes to check on Jerrod. In his dying breath, he informs Kitana that she is actually his daughter.
