—Havik in Mortal Kombat 1

This article is about the character Havik, who is also named Dairou in the current timeline. For other characters that use the Dairou name, see Dairou (disambiguation).

Havik is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. A denizen from Chaosrealm, he is hellbent on bringing Chaos to any and all realms he sees fit to upset the balance of Order.

Havik made his playable debut in Mortal Kombat: Deception. He later appears as one of the many characters in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

A new version of Havik returns in Mortal Kombat 1, marking his return to the franchise as a playable character for the first time in over 17 years.

About Havik

Hailing from the Chaosrealm, Havik is a Cleric of Chaos and an anarchist. Neither good nor evil, his ambitions are only to spread discord, and he will ally himself with those who can seek to further his ends, regardless of their goals. He is known to be a frequent troublemaker in Seido (the Realm of Order), and is heralded as a hero by the populace of the Chaosrealm, where he has formed an alliance with the revolutionary Darrius. He opposes the Dragon King, Onaga, who rules by order, and he rivals Hotaru, the Seidan guardsman.

In the new timeline, Havik hails from the Orderrealm. His backstory is extended upon and partially amalgamated with that of the Seidan Dairou, whose name Havik now shares as his real name, as well as his history as a member of Seido. A member of its lowest caste, Havik was driven by anger due to its laws. Havik sets out to destroy Seido's regime, replacing it with an anarchist utopia and freeing its citizens.

Appearance

In Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Havik is a muscular man whose appearance is identified primarily by his mutilated face, specifically his burnt-off nose and mouth. He wears a battle helmet that covers his entire head except for his face; his hair sticks out the back in a ponytail. He wears padded armour that covers only the left side of his chest. His left arm is covered in a blue sleeve, while his right arm only has an armband and glove.  He wears baggy pants with a blue sash over metal plated boots that go up to his knees.

Alternate Costume: Havik wears a black hood on his head, covering his hideous face. He wears a dark purple shirt under that with red thick "suspenders." He also wears silver/metal arm guards and red and black gloves.  He wears a thick red sash and has a red and black flap in front of his legs. He wears baggy dark purple pants over silver and black boots.

In most of his appearances up to Mortal Kombat X, Havik wears the Chaos Headdress, a silver headpiece that covers his cheeks and forehead and is adorned with ancient symbols representing various degrees of chaos. His outfit is primarily red and blue, consisting of a blue left sleeve with a red cuff, blue pants and a red sash, black gloves and gray boots, shoulder and left rib armor, various bandages, a red scarf underneath his ponytail, and a medallion with four Chinese symbols engraved in cardinal positions on the front, with a star shape in the middle (ultimately resembling a compass of sorts). While Havik has black eyes, they may occasionally be depicted as blank.

In Mortal Kombat 1, Havik sports a side-swept hairstyle as opposed to his previous iteration's ponytail. His outfit structure is largely the same, though he lacks the Chaos Headdress. Instead of a sash, he wears a large, red-violet waistcloth, partially covered by leather straps. Numerous belts connect Havik's armor together. His right forearm is equipped with a gray glove tipped with metal claws, while his left forearm is covered by a fingerless, red-violet vambrace. The entirety of his left arm is adorned with metal armor slats, which are further covered by various spiked armor pieces (also adorning his boots) and a vicious double-sided armblade. He retains the compass-style medallion over his left pauldron, though he lacks full rib armor and his right pauldron is noticeably smaller and less reinforced.

Combat characteristics

Powers and Abilities

Being a Cleric of Chaos, Havik possesses a fighting style showcasing a bizarre assortment of techniques that can both throw off and devastate the opponent's mind and body. His body is so warped that he experiences joy and pleasure instead of pain and suffering. He is able to rejuvenate himself by dislocating his own limbs or even recover from what should be life-ending injuries such as a broken neck and crushed skull. Because of his unpredictable ways, what may seem as a battle of death is nothing more than either a lesson or a friendly conversation. Beyond this is a fighting style revolving around savagery and mayhem.

As revealed in the alternate timeline, Havik has some skill in sorcery, as he was able to corrupt the Blood Magik within the Kamidogu, allowing him to corrupt and possess anyone who is cut with one of the daggers, even gods. There seems to be no limit to how many victims Havik can control at one time, or even distances, as he is able to control others while in an entirely different realm.

Havik also possesses a healing factor, which is what allows him to survive his deadly contortions, such as his neck snapping, and even reattach severed limbs with little hassle. When this ability was enhanced by Blood Magik, he could survive being beaten to death by Scorpion's hellfire-coated punches.

In Mortal Kombat 1, Havik's healing factor appears nigh-absolute and as a result, his fighting style is far more macabre in comparison. He can twist and tear his torso apart, use his internal organs as weapons and even tear off his own head and immediately grow a new one.

Signature Moves

  • Torso Spin: Havik spins his torso around, using his arms to strike his opponent. In MK1, this is called Twisted Torso, and Havik rips himself in half, spinning his torso as his legs walk towards the opponent before pulling himself together for the final strike. (MK:D, MK:A, MK1)
    • In MK1, the enhanced version deals more damage.
  • Diving Corpse: Havik dives under his opponent knocking him/her into the air. (MK:D, MK:A)
  • Crackling Legs Projectile: Havik cracks his legs in an impossible right angle fashion and sends a projectile from his hands. (MK:D, MK:A)
  • Head Snap: Havik snaps his neck once and then back into place. This restores health. (MK:D, MK:A)
  • Corpse Taunt: Havik bends his body down and comes back up. This restores health, more so than the Head Snap, but in return, the process will take twice as long as the Head Snap. In MK1, it can only be used after Enhanced Blood Bath, and Havik snaps his neck, making the opponent do the same. (MK:D, MK:A, MK1)
  • Neoplasm: Havik conjures a ball of viscera from his body that spins around him once and flies forward. (MK1)
    • The enhanced version flies behind Havik and appears near the opponent, hitting them from behind.
  • Seeking Neoplasm: Havik tears his neck open, creating a ball of viscera that flies upwards before locking onto the opponent. (MK1)
    • The enhanced version creates two projectiles that travel in a sine pattern.
  • Helping Hand: Havik rips his own arm off and bashes the opponent with it, uppercutting them after the second strike. (MK1)
    • The enhanced version grants super armor and has Havik smash the opponent on the head, stunning them and making them fall to the ground so that they are open to kombo attacks.
  • Blood Bath: Havik rolls towards the opponent and attempts to grab them. If he's successful, he rips his lower jaw off and spews a stream of blood at the opponent before punching them away. (MK1)
    • The enhanced version has Havik connect to the the opponent with a string, that, if Havik uses the Corpse Taunt, makes them snap their own neck and transfers a small percentage of their health to Havik.

Fatal Blow

  • Disarmed and Dangerous: Havik pulls out his left arm and starts smashing at his opponent. After the Kameo attack, Havik charges in with a headbutt, knocking the opponent down and brutally punches their head, breaking his own hands and exposing the bone to pierce their skull before knocking them away. (MK1)

Other moves

  • Self-Destructive Barrage: Havik grabs the opponent and rips off his own head, smashing it against the opponent's. As his own head regenerates, he snaps the opponent's neck, lifts them up and tosses them behind himself while tearing his own torso off. (MK1)
  • Skab Stab: Havik lunges at the opponent with a punch, hits them in the gut with his other hand and grabs them, ripping off his forearm and driving the exposed bones into their neck before tossing them behind himself. (MK1)

Fatalities

  • Human Pencil Sharpener: Havik quickly devours his opponent's arms, and then vomits up bloody chunks of meat immediately afterward. (MK:D)
  • Batter Up: Havik rips off his opponent's leg and bashes their head off with it. (MK:D)
  • Atomic Heart: Havik rips his own heart out. He then tears out his opponent's heart and inserts his into their chest cavity. Havik then crushes his opponent's heart, causing an explosion which their tears their arm off and creates a large gaping hole in their body. (MK1)
  • RAD-ius Incision: Havik kicks the opponent in the hip, breaking his own leg and exposing the bone in his knee before stabbing it in their chin. He then punches the opponent's neck, breaking his own hand and exposing the bone. Havik impales the exposed bone through the opponent's neck and slices downwards, exposing their intestines. Havik then pushes their body, causing them to fall down onto their back. (MK1)

  • Good to Be Back!: Havik performs his Self-Destructive Barrage throw and completely twists the opponent's head off. (MK1)

  • Need a Hand?: Havik performs his Skab Stab kombo and rips the opponent's head off, resting it on his mutilated arm. (MK1)
    • A button must be held.

Trivia

General

  • A Krypt concept art reveals that Havik's model was going to be used for the Alternate Costume of Noob Saibot.
  • Havik's beta name was Skab.
  • When executing his Hara-Kiri, Havik holds his head toward the camera and grins, making him break the fourth wall.
    • This makes him the second character in the Mortal Kombatseries to have broken the fourth wall (The first being Kabal).
  • Havik and other denizens of Chaosrealm worship water, considering its random, uncontrollable flow sacred and chaotic.
  • If Havik is knocked off completely of the sky tower in Deception, in the middle of his yelling as he plummets toward the ground he exclaims "Oh man, this is gonna suck!" and then resumes his screaming the rest of the way down. But in Armageddon, Taven, and custom male characters who use the voice of "Large Male 2" will also yell and exclaim "Oh man, this is gonna suck!" and scream continuously to the ground.
  • Havik's facial appearance (a half-naked skull and a pair of blank eyes), as well as his self-mutilating special abilities, seem to indicate that Havik is Undead. However, this has never been stated in canon, and likely reflects the nature of Havik's homeworld, Chaosrealm.
    • In 1, Havik's original appearance is that of a normal person and his mouth is a produce of being burned by lava. His eyes are also normal and not blank.
  • Havik is currently the only playable character in the series who originates from the Chaosrealm.
  • Though Havik can contort his body into impossible positions, he can still be killed by Hotaru's Triple Neck Snap Fatality. However, this is merely a gameplay mechanic or simply there is a limit to how much Havik can contort his body.
  • Havik's Batter Up Fatality is very similar to Quan Chi's Leg Beatdown Fatality in MK4, but instead of beating the opponent to death like Quan Chi does, Havik just knocks the opponent's head off.
  • It seems odd that Havik knows and uses a martial art as they are an ordered form of fighting. Something which Havik is against.
  • It's unknown just how powerful Havik's healing factor truly is as he apparently can heal from virtually any injury. His healing factor however is still not strong enough to allow him to survive Fatalities.
    • In 1, his healing factor can heal him of any injury he causes to himself but it apparently can't heal his scarred mouth.
  • While Havik is said to experience pleasure rather than pain, in 1 he visibly suffers after his face is burned by Scorpion.

Mortal Kombat (2011)

  • Havik makes a cameo appearance in Noob Saibot's Arcade ending, where it is revealed that he has made a secret pact with Havik. This could be a reference to his origins as an alternate costume for him.

Mortal Kombat 11

  • Havik makes a cameo in the Joker's ending, where he and the Joker team up in order to cause chaos in Orderrealm. To do so, they have created the League of Misunderstood Maniacs, which include Mileena and Hsu Hao as members.
    • Additionally, Havik is mentioned by Joker again in an interaction between him and Kitana, where he wishes to know where Havik is so he can - as Kitana describes it - "help stoke his chaos".
  • In the Aftermath Story Mode expansion, Havik is mentioned to be alive by Shang Tsung after he briefly banished Geras to Chaosrealm.

Mortal Kombat 1

  • Havik returned to the franchise for the first time as a playable character in the game, his last playable appearance being in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon after a 17 year absence.
  • An interaction between Reptile and Havik reveal Havik's real name in this timeline is Dairou, but whenever he's actually Dairou is currently unknown.
