—Goro to Cole Young |
Goro is a character in the 2021 Mortal Kombat film. Goro is portrayed entirely through CGI; however, he is voiced by Angus Sampson.
Biography
Renowned champion of the Mortal Kombat Tournament, Prince Goro of the Shokan aids the sorcerer Shang Tsung and his Outworld champions in preventing Earthrealm's participation in the Tournament by trying to eliminate its champions before they can fight.
Combat Characteristics
Being a Shokan, Goro is a physically dominant kombatant, able to easily overpower Cole Young and able to withstand considerable blows to his body. After Cole unlocked his Arcana, Cole managed to fight Goro with more ease, however, even uppercutting Goro with a powered punch merely gave the Shokan a bloody lip. Unlike his video game counterpart, Goro does not use any of the signature Shokan fire techniques, instead fighting with his immense, brute strength.
Behind the Scenes

Raw footage of Goro fight
Just like his counterpart in the original Mortal Kombat film, Goro is portrayed entirely through visual effects; however, it has not been revealed if motion capture was also used to portray the Shokan Prince. The HBO Max featrurette Fight Koreography reveals that two members of the film's fight team, one on stilts and one in front were used as stand-ins for Goro. This allowed Cole Young's actor, Lewis Tan, to have the feel of fighting an actual opponent, giving a more realistic performance.
Trivia
- Similar to Shao Kahn's appearance in Mortal Kombat 11, Goro appearance takes inspiration directly from his most recent game appearance in the series, this being his appearance in Mortal Kombat X.
