—Master Boyd, Mortal Kombat (film)

Bill Boyd,[1] referred as Master Boyd by Johnny Cage, appeared briefly in the 1995 film Mortal Kombat. Boyd is an Occidental karate master and one of Johnny Cage's martial arts instructors, to whom Johnny shows much respect and admiration, referring him as sensei.

History[]

After a frustration during filming, Johnny was told a man was waiting for him at his trailer. The annoyed Johnny saw "the man" was reading a newspaper that claimed Johnny's on-screen martial arts was fake. Johnny was upset at first, but he became happy to see it was Master Boyd visiting him. Boyd then informs Johnny of "the tournament" and claimed that if Johnny were to win this competition, the entire world would be informed that Johnny's martial arts prowess was not fake, as tabloids had been falsely reporting.

Johnny Cage's Invitation

A scroll in Johnny Cage's hands is his "invitation" to the Mortal Kombat tournament, given to by Master Boyd (Shang Tsung in disguise)

Master Boyd then gave Johnny a scroll, the invitation to the tournament, and told him to arrive there via a boat at Pier 40 in Hong Kong on time.

However, it was later revealed that "Master Boyd" was Shang Tsung in disguise, tricking Johnny into participating in the Mortal Kombat Tournament on his island.
