Bo' Rai Cho is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series, who made his debut in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

He his well known for training numerous warriors in kombat throughout the series including Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Shujinko and Li Mei.

Combat characteristics

Signature Moves

  • Puke Puddle: Bo' Rai Cho vomits on the ground. If his opponent were to step on the puddle, they would slide and allow a free hit or combo for Bo' Rai Cho. In Mortal Kombat X, this move has been renamed to Vomit Spray, and acts as a projectile-type attack rather than a disabling one, knocking the opponent to the ground on hit. (MK:DA, MK:TE, MK:D, MK:U, MK:A, MKX - Drunken Master Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Puke Spray and has Bo' Rai Cho's vomit travel the entire screen's distance, with increased damage.
    • Bo' Rai Cho may only use Vomit Spray and Puke Spray if he is at Level 3 Drunk.
  • Monkey Flips: Bo' Rai Cho performs two front flips against his opponent. In Mortal Kombat X, it is called Tumble Kicks. (MK:DA, MK:TE, MK:D, MK:U, MK:A, MKX)

    • Bo' Rai Cho, Frost and Kenshi are the only ones to make playable appearances.
  • Bo' Rai Cho was created mainly because Ed Boon wanted a character to be basically "slobby" and that the Mortal Kombat franchise did not yet have a teacher, which Bo' Rai Cho's role fills.
  • Bo' Rai Cho's bio proves that he and Baraka have been archenemies for years and still are. Also in Baraka's Trading Card, his only foe is Bo' Rai Cho. One of his Deception bios say that he dealt and battled with Tartakan warriors before.

  • According to the Motor Kombat track, Bo' Rai Cho apparently owns a very large brewery in Outworld.
  • As unlocked in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Bo' Rai Cho is the marketing icon for a fake drink called Peptic Thunder which causes involuntary vomiting upon consumption. It bears a resemblance to the medication drug Pepto-Bismol, due to its distinctive pink color.
  • In Spanish, the word "borracho" means "drunk." According to character artist Herman Sanchez, the word simply felt Asian-sounding enough to use for Bo' Rai Cho after being broken down into three separate syllables.
  • Bo' Rai Cho is seen in the Armageddon opening scene. He was seen being stabbed by one of the knives Kano threw. Then he used his Puke Puddle move to make Kano and Kobra slip and tumble down the pyramid before he was sent flying by Sheeva. He was on the ground fighting other kombatants while Shang Tsung blasted the kombatants on the pyramid with a fireball.
  • Bo' Rai Cho himself stated that "Earthrealm's rice wine (sake) put Outworld's liquor to shame", which is one of the reasons why he enjoys going to Earthrealm.
  • In Deadly Alliance, during gameplay, sometimes when switching fighting styles with Bo' Rai Cho, a fart noise can be heard. It can also be heard when jumping or moving around.
    • In MKX, he will occasionally fart during his win pose after performing a Brutality.
  • In a Top 10 list hosted by Screwattack.com, Bo' Rai Cho was placed at #10 of the worst characters in the Mortal Kombat series, pointing to his puke-based attacks, and his walking stick weapon in MK:DA.
    • Conversely, Bo’ Rai Cho was #4 on Play Magazine's “5 characters we want to see in Mortal Kombat” list.
  • In MK 2011's Story Mode, Bo' Rai Cho can be seen amongst the people in Cyber Sub-Zero's database.
  • In MKX, Bo' Rai Cho is the only character with an unblockable X-Ray attack.
    • Additionally, Bo' Rai Cho has the longest delayed X-Ray, being able to delay it for about 10 seconds.
  • In MKX, with the exception of the announcer, Bo' Rai Cho is one of two characters to address Erron Black by name. The second is Triborg.
    • With the release of Mortal Kombat XL, Bo' Rai Cho will also address guest character Jason Voorhees by his full name, who previously was only addressed by name by Shinnok.
  • In MKX, Bo' Rai Cho is one of two characters who has a throw in a combo rather than a special move. The first being Jason Voorhees.
  • In MKX, if his X-Ray is excluded, Bo' Rai Cho is one of two characters with two unblockable attacks. The first was Goro.
  • In the DC fighting game Injustice 2, although he is not mentioned by Sub-Zero or Raiden who are featured as playable guest characters, Bo' Rai Cho's name appears on multiple pieces of Raiden's gear.
  • Bo' Rai Cho is one of the few characters whose fighting style is altered by the addition or removal of a weapon.
  • Bo' Rai Cho is one of two characters from the Story Mode of Mortal Kombat X that was later added to the game as DLC. The first was Tanya.
    • Interestingly, Bo' Rai Cho was simply a cameo in Raiden's chapter while Tanya was an NPC with her own model, move set and abilities.
  • With Bo' Rai Cho's inclusion in Mortal Kombat X, he added "Use of Alcohol" to the game's Rating due to it being a part of his move set and special attacks.
  • In Mortal Kombat 11, he is one of the few characters to make a cameo in the Towers of Time as a non-physical support, farting across the fightline for the kombatant he is supporting.
  • In Mortal Kombat 11, he is referenced by Liu Kang during interactions with Kollector and Kung Lao.
    • Kollector mocks Bo' Rai Cho when Liu Kang refers to him as master and the one who trained him, saying "That drunken fool trained you?!"
    • When Kung Lao states he is better than Liu Kang, Liu Kang responds with "Have you been drinking with Bo' Rai Cho?"

Errors

  • If Bo' Rai Cho performs his Fire Spit secret Brutality on his opponent right as they knock him away, a glitch will occur and he will still walk backwards and pour his drink of respect despite being nowhere near the opponent's body.
    • Additionally, when he pours during this glitch, the flames will still accelerate even though he is nowhere near the body.
  • Bo' Rai Cho's Fart Cloud can linger longer than usual. The fart can be absent to the point that it is unseeable, which results in a rare chance that the opponent will be stunned by almost nothing in front of them. This also seems to happen with Scorpion's Flame Aura.
  • Bo' Rai Cho's uppercut in his Bartitsu Variation does not have to make contact with the opponent to connect. This occurs more if the opponent jumps over Bo' Rai Cho and he performs the attack right after. This is more than likely due to the cane's hitbox.
  • In MKX, Bo' Rai Cho flask incorrectly swaps sides when he changes stances.
    • While in the Bartitsu Variation, his cane will do the same thing.
