So, this is going to be my own series of notes as to how I would adapt Mortal Kombat into a series on TV, starting with how I would introduce the concepts of the Cyber Initiative and of the modern Lin Kuei's shift towards technology. It's not perfect as I am just a teenager talking about a fighting game series, but hey, neither's my original DIO concept.
So, first off, we talk about how I'd introduce the idea of the Cyber Lin Kuei themselves. Since Sektor and Cyrax would still be human by the time I'm setting this (during the events of MK2), I was feeling like we could introduce the basic template of a Cyberninja during this time. The Cyberninja will be the "silent hunter" kind of antagonist; an intimidating, emotionless stalker whose only goal is to kill its targets and will show no mercy in doing so. I will also introduce a unique set of skills and weapons for the Cyberninja to use, such as bombs, wrist blades akin to the Doom Slayer's Doomblade from DOOM Eternal, plasma cannons, a lightsaber-esque glowing katana, some kind of homing attack, a shoulder-mounted gun and so much more. I will also include an explanation for why the Lin Kuei is going the route of turning their ranks into Cyberninjas instead of just making infinitely reproducible robots, that explanation being that they are limited on their technology and have to combine the human brain with a computer in order to get the efficient killing machines they so desperately desire.
Next, let's talk about how I'd introduce the more technological elements of the Lin Kuei outside of the Cyberninjas (which are currently only experimental in the time I'm setting it in). Put simply, I would have everyone's stance on cyberization be adapted into their fighting style. Sektor would be fully on board with the cyberization, seeing human life as disposable and worth sacrificing for the sake of evolution. Thus, he would pretty much use his same attacks he would eventually use as a cyborg, but not mounted directly to him. Cyrax would be on board with the Lin Kuei's advancement towards technology, but wouldn't know about the Cyber Initiative until later, with the Grandmaster knowing that if he did find out, he'd try to sabotage it. His fighting style would thus be riddled with use of his tech, but with some attention going to his standard Lin Kuei weapons. Smoke, with his status as a low-level Lin Kuei (as it's my headcanon that the black and gray outfits are not a thing exclusive to Smoke, but rather a default Lin Kuei outift) would be both uninformed and neutral about the tech stuff, and would use a balance of semi-advanced weaponry and basic weapons. Kuai Liang, out of respect for his brother who was never on board with the technological approach as a whole (and foreshadowing his eventual betrayal of the Lin Kuei entirely once he finds out about the Cyber Initiative), would use his basic weapons more, combining them with his ice powers and tactical skill to show that someone can be successful without the need for fancy technology.
What do you guys think of it? Is it good how it is or do I need to improve on a few things? I appreciate you guys' feedback on how I can become better at this stuff
