Well, there are slight differences between each and every incarnation. Johnny Cage didn't have the green shadow magic in the Current Timeline and Liu Kang never was a Zombie in the Alternate Timeline.

Well, unless you want to count Revenant Liu Kang. A revenant is the same as a zombie, only difference is visual, orange glowing veins, a distorted voice and dying grey skin.

Revenants are more like dark silhouettes of the warrior's former selves. Zombies are more dead like with bad skin appearance. Anyway, another difference is that Onaga never did the big deception part in the Alternate Timeline.
